Can We Change?

TAKE A MOMENT TO LOOK AT THE WORLD. Things appear to be pretty screwed up right now. If you watch the evening news chances are all you’ll see and hear about is war, conflict, death, illness, suffering of one kind or another… in other words, all the gory, newsworthy items sensationalize to attract our attention.

Mainstream media has a morbid addiction for telling dramatic news stories. It keeps people focused on the drama, but besides that, it reveals something real about the current state of our world. Most of what we do in the name of ‘good’ ends up destroying something else in the process and is justified if it earns a profit.

Michael Ellner quoted, “Just look at us. Everything is backwards, everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, psychiatrists destroy minds, scientists destroy truth, major media destroys information, religions destroy spirituality and governments destroy freedom.”

Now obviously this quote is a simplified way of looking at the current state of our world, but in many ways it’s bang on. We divide the world’s land mass into sections and then fight over who owns them. We recruit armies of soldiers to protect us, which makes it okay for them to kill other human beings if necessary.

We send children to school for their entire childhood to memorize facts and skills that they will rarely use. We torture and kill millions of animals needlessly for food, clothing and lab testing. We have thousands of religions, each professing that their god is the one and only true god. All of this is done unconsciously of course.

“Every experience, no matter how bad it seems, holds within it a blessing of some kind.
The goal is to find it.”~
Buddha

Our way of life so far has brought us to a point where we are destroying everything, so the question is, ‘Isn’t it time for change?’ Are we capable, honest, and determined enough to look at where our actions have brought us and make a concerted effort to do something completely different in order to restore balance?..

Dan’s Quote: “What screws us up most in life is the picture
______________in our head of how it’s supposed to be.”

  1. It’s sad but “death” seems to sell more to the masses then does “life”

    • Too True Kenneth T! Like a moth to a flame, we humans are much more drawn to news of the death destruction and/or suffering of someone, (other than ourselves of course) either individually or collectively, and the grizzlier the better, than we are to an enlightening, feel good news item that gives us a positive feeling that all is right with our world… for that good feeling doesn’t sit well with the projected profit margins that is the news media’s bottom line. What a fix we are all in.
