BEYOND FACING OURSELVES…
IF WE didn’t have a compulsive need to appear successful, would we care if someone else made more money than we do? If we had no attraction to social functions, would it bother us if we didn’t receive any invitations? If we were free from fearful dependency upon other people, would we be upset if they no longer wished to be our friend?
If our artificial needs fell away through self-insight, would we need to be concerned about these things at all? No! If we face ourselves properly, fully, beneath the habitual mind and body – that false sense of self we call ourselves – we would find that something else exists within us that is basically awake as opposed to asleep.
We would find something intrinsically cheerful and fundamentally pride-worthy. That is to say, we don’t have to pretend, it’s just there, and always has been. We would discover genuine one-hundred-percent self worthiness.
We are essentially awake. We might think this is just an old myth, another trick to cheer us up. But no! It is real and it is good…
