Mind WorX – Evolution 1

THERE is a restless churning within us all – an instinctive impulse to learn something we don’t as yet understand – an almost inaudible whisper on the winds of our mind that there is somewhere we are going that is very special – a position in the universe that is waiting patiently for us to mature enough to warrant the gift of the treasures that have been laid aside for us there.

This inner urge was there when we first looked out of the mouth of our caves and were blinded by the light of our first new day, making us instinctively cover our bushy brow with a hairy hand as we gazed out upon the breathtaking beauty of the majestic landscape that was to become our homeland, Mother Earth that spread out before us like a living carpet. This was the beginning of our physical journey.

That same inner longing is still with us today. Its intensity has never waned over all that time but is relentlessly impelling us ever onward to a destiny that as yet we do not know. That inner momentum is evolution at work – the intuitive compulsion to experience and learn the new and unexperienced – the incessant spurring on by some inner intelligence other than the thinker in our heads.

We began our journey as primitive, savage beasts. Physical evolution was first priority. We needed to survive in this alien world. Our bodies needed to adapt to enable us to successfully exist in a hostile environment full of other beasts that vied for our food and shelter – necessities if we were going to survive.

We were different to the other beasts in that we were blessed with a consciousness of self, albeit primitive. We were aware of ourselves as individual beings and also of our own impending and inevitable death.

Before we can walk, we must learn to crawl. Physical evolution is the kindergarten and lower classes of the school of life. During this phase of our evolution, it was not feasible that we remain aware of the fact that we were eternal spiritual beings whose true home was one of only Love, Joy and Peace.

If that had been the case then, when things got a bit rough and the going tough, many would be taking their own lives left, right and centre in their mad and hasty rush to get back to their peaceful, spiritual abode. The number of us suiciding at the moment without knowing what comes next is proof enough that this would be so.

Just imagine if in this day and age, we knew that we were really eternal, spiritual beings! Only the hardiest and most curious of us would keep soldiering on – which as can be easily realized would be very few indeed. In logical terms, there would never be enough of us present to make the physical experience worthwhile.

So it is understandable why The Creator, in his Universal Wisdom reasoned to lower a curtain of ignorance over our minds, making us unconscious as to who we really are and thus instead believe we were this little ‘ego in a body suit’ that was essential for our sojourns in the physical world.

Once we pass these elementary exams, we then have the opportunity to graduate to higher classes and begin learning the lessons for our spiritual evolution that is needed to complement the physical, balancing us as whole and complete spiritual/physical beings.

In which class are we now you ask? We are still in the children’s class, but we are close to getting ready to sit our exams for the graduation to the higher, spiritual classes. It is a certainty that we will all learn and graduate eventually but how long it will take depends on what each one of us do in the near future.

Like any exam, we must pay attention. Our hubristic beliefs and narcissist selfish, greed and materialism must be put aside for they are impediments to our success – obstructions that we can easily rid ourselves of if we really want to pass our exam and advance onward to where we are destined to go. It is up to us…
