COMPARING THE PHYSICAL WORLD to ‘watching a movie‘ is one way of trying to understand how life works. Another way is to liken life to driving a car. We use our car to get about in. The car’s computer and gauges make us aware when the vehicle needs servicing or something’s amiss.

We also use our body as a vehicle to get around in the physical world. It operates in much the same manner as our car. It has a computer (brain) which tells us when it needs nourishment like food or liquid and if something’s amiss, our body will let us know something’s wrong.

When driving our car, what do you think would happen if our mind and the vehicle mentally merged and we believed it was more than just a machine to get around in?

What if we believed our car was who we were? Men in white coats would come along, kindly put us in a long sleeved jacket and take us away to a big building with barred windows wouldn’t they?

It sounds ludicrous, but that is how we have come to regard our body, yet it is the same as our car, it has no life of its own. Without us there to guide it, it would be just as inert as our unmanned car, but because our mind has become confused, we wrongly believe we are this body which we use to get from place to place.

The mind is where our consciousness dwells whilst travelling around in this earthly body. This is the place where we experience and learn about our self in form. When our life adventure is over, we step out of our human vehicle and return to our eternal home.

The body becomes unusable because it has no driver (us) and as with an old or wrecked car, eventually decays and returns to the earth from whence it came. Who is this ‘US’ then that guides the vehicle called the human body? It is our eternal, spiritual self… our soul. That is who we really are…
